The UC-Berkeley Pie Queens came in second in the Northwest region last season, qualifying for the UPA College Championships. The team made the quarterfinals of the championships before losing to Texas.

This year, the Pie Queens return 15 players from its 2005 roster. Although the team will miss stand-outs Kath Ratcliff, Julie "Bruiser" Shortridge, Tracy Tietge, and Rebecca Rundle, Berkeley has some key additions to add to its already strong returning core. Benefitting from the numerous graduate departments at UC-Berkeley, the team is adding 4 grad students from various other undergraduate programs to its roster. The Pie Queens also have three true rookies and one former Tart (B-team) player.

This young team has a lot of depth. Players to especially watch are defensive lay-out specialist Amanda Leahy and track-star Darragh Clancy. Without relying on Ratcliff as the team's main thrower, there will be a number of players to step into the role of handler, including Beth Boylan and Sarah "Scoops" Welch.

Making the quarterfinals of the championships the last three years in a row is one indication of the type of consisten program that Berkeley has in place. The team should remain in the top tier of teams in the Northwest this season.
