| Colorado Kali has made the semifinals of the UPA Club Championships three out of the last four years, including last season. Given the talent on this years’ roster, the team will set its sights no lower than a championship in 2006.
Although the team lost grad student Shalini Lo-Nam, it returns its dynamic duo of leaders: Carolyn Matthews (#42) and Alex Synder (#4). Both players have played for the women's club team Rare Air for multiple seasons now, work well together, and handle the disc with confidence. Additionally, the team picked up transfer student Heather Pavlak from Carleton. Captains Ashley Cantrell, Genna Kohlhardt, and Krista Miller add depth to the roster that includes 9 of the 14 players on last year's team. Under the tutelage of coaches Mike Whitaker and Leah Brooks, the team is well-disciplined and has traditionally played a threatening trapping zone defense when weather allows. On offense, the team utilizes one-on-one match-ups in a spread/isolation structure. At this point, Colorado is the favorite to win the Southwest region and should be a main player on the national scene. |
