Last year, Cornell emerged from the East coast as the Metro East regional champions, gaining a bid to the UPA College Championships. In Corvallis, OR, Cornell faced a tough pool, battling MIT and the women's division finalists, Stanford and Washington, to end up in 9th/10th place, overall. Although having graduated a strong and diverse senior line including handler and former captain Jessica Cofrin (#12), the Wild Roses continue to be a team of talented and dedicated players. Leading the team this year is Riki Cullingford (#18) and last year's all-region player, Hilary Corson (#33). Cornell has also aimed for a new level of play with graduated player Lauren Childs (formerly of Duke University) stepping in as coach. The Wild Roses proved itself to be a strong team during the fall season, winning the Brown's Huck-a-Hunk-O-Burnin'-Pumpkin and Rutger's fall tournament. The team also took 2nd at Yale's Coffee Cup, after a hard fight against Dartmouth. Although injury has claimed a couple of Roses, including former captain Clare Rittschof (#9), Cornell nevertheless enters the Spring season ready to defend its regional title and travel to Columbus, OH, for another Championship trip. Cornell plans on attending several competitive tournaments this spring, including Trouble in Vegas, Atlantis, Southerns, and Ultimax. |
