| 2005 was a rebuilding year for UBC, but the team is reloaded for this season and ready to challenge the top teams in the region again.
A number of the team's players competed with Vancouver's Rough Riders for the club season, gaining valuable experience under the tutelage of Val Dion and Steph Chow (Chow currently coaches UBC). Kira Frew and Megan O'Brien (#1) were especially valuable players for Rough Riders, and the confidence gained on that team should translate well to the college season. O'Brien was not enrolled at UBC last year, missing a season of college ultimate, but she is back and ready to take the reins of the squad again. Another player to watch is freshman Tory Hislop, a former juniors player who played with the Canadian junior team in Finland in 2004. Ultimate is so popular in Vancouver that UBC usually benefits from recruiting some players with previous exposure to the sport. With Frew and O'Brien leading a strong rookie class, UBC should make its presence felt at major tournaments this season. |
