Wake Forest went from being ranked approximately 130th in the country to almost hitting the top 25 in 2005. This year, they will continue to build on that momentum and be one of the front runners of the Atlantic Coast. Ruckus played UNC very tough at Regionals last year, dropping the pool play game 10-13, and established themselves as a team to reckon with for 2006. Like Florida, Wake Forest graduated few key players from last year’s roster. This year, Lucia Derks (#3) will lead the Wake Forest ladies with skilled throws and speed. Her supporting cast is strong, broad, and deep. The Ruckus ladies are coached by Backhoe player Tammy Moose. It can be expected that Wake Forest will put to good use many of the concepts and strategies that Backhoe used to get to the finals at the 2005 Club Championship. Do not be surprised if you see Ruckus play a lot of straight up defense, four person cup, different zone O set ups, and even some spread offense. Wake Forest will follow Florida's suit and be a frequent visitor of the many prestigious tournaments the Atlantic Coast has to offer. Quite possibly they plan on making the trip to not only QCTU but also Terminus, Southerns, and Easterns. This team is making a serious run for one of the 2-3 bids to Columbus, OH. |
