| Last year, Wisconsin came in third in its region and failed to earn a bid to the UPA College Championships. Bella Donna plans on avenging that loss this season and hopes to capture the solitary bid to the championships from the Central region.
The team lost a few key players from last year's roster, namely Jill Hutchinson, Betsy Calkins, and Jane Benzschawel. However, it returns 11 veteran players and is lead by 2005 All-Region player Holly Greunke. Other key players to watch include captain Dana Gerrits, Anna Schott, and Claire Mowbray. Additionally, the team picked-up a few rookies who played multiple years in high school, some even with club experience before college. All the experience on the team enables the squad to function effectively even without a coach. A number of players on the team gained club experience last summer and fall playing with Madison Jazz. The increased team cohesion seems to have paid off as already Wisconsin has made its mark on the 2006 season by coming in third at Trouble in Vegas and winning the prize money at Mardi Gras. |
