National Ultimate Media Panel (NUMP) Rankings 2005

The NUMP ranks the top women's teams throughout the college season (the top 15 list was expanded to top 20 on March 23rd). The panelists consist of coaches, former players, and other ultimate enthusiasts who are committed to following the season.

  • NC State won Atlantic Coast Regionals, beating Georgia, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Virginia to earn the AC's only bid to Nationals
  • Carleton upset Wisconsin 9-8 and Iowa 13-10 to win the Central region while later Iowa beat Wisconsin in the backdoor game-to-go
  • Dartmouth, Brown, and MIT earned bids (in that order) to Nationals from New England with Dartmouth never having more than 6 points scored against it
  • Texas won the South unchallenged while Texas A&M earned the second bid
  • Purdue won Great Lakes Regionals and Northwestern made it through the backdoor for the second place bid; Illinois gave Purdue its closest game in pool play: 10-9
  • Cornell won the Metro East with Rutgers coming in second for the two bids from the ME
  • Stanford won Northwest Regionals with UC-Berkeley coming in second. Oregon and Washington battled to a 13-11 win for Washington in the backdoor game-to-go for the region's third bid to Nationals
  • Colorado emerged with the one bid from the Southwest after beating UCLA by one in semis and avenging a Saturday loss to UC-San Diego in the finals

  • Stanford beat Washington (UW) in the finals of the UPA College Championships 15-12 after losing to UW in pool play earlier during the weekend
  • Texas and Colorado go undefeated into semifinals before losing to Stanford and UW, respectively
  • The other four teams to make quarterfinals were: UC-Berkeley, Brown, Iowa, and NC State
  • MIT lost to UC-Berkeley in pre-quarters in a close match. MIT went on to earn 9th place at the tournament
  • Brown beat Carleton in the pre-quarters in another close game, eliminating Carleton from the championship bracket in the first time in the school's history
  • Iowa beat NC State in pool play, but had to play Stanford in quarter-finals due to Stanford's loss to UW in pool play. Stanford won 15-10
  • Dartmouth also played Stanford closely, losing to the eventual champions in pre-quarters
