In 2004, Oregon was the dominant team in its section and almost made it to the backdoor game-to-go at Regionals. The team was highly competitive with teams across the nation at a number of top-level tournaments. Check out this year's results at the Score Reporter.

To improve off of it successes last year, Fugue managed to return most of its key players. The team graduated only two players: Serena Woods and Jenny Riker. Lead by 2003 Callahan winner Chelsea Dengler, the team also relies on veteran handlers Meryl Kusyk and Mary Gray. Dengler is a dynamic player known for her huge lay-out bids on offense and defense, but also dictates the offense with the disc. Kusyk and Gray use precision throws to help keep the offense moving, and Kusyk is able to take advantage of her height to dominate the air. Backing up the senior players on the team is a group of returners who seem to have the athleticism, drive, and love of the game to mature into a solid cast of skilled players. Especially watch out for Brittany Kaza, Calla Schmidt, and Cheryl Young as well as multiple juniors players to round out the roster. With so much talent this year, Oregon will have the team chemistry and experience to go far during the regular season, and should be a contender for one of the three bids to Nationals.

Oregon has benefited under the instruction of Rachelle Depner and is a well-coached team that plays hard every point. This year, Rachelle will not be coaching again and the captains plus Dengler will be calling the shots. With Dengler leading the way, the team has worked hard on its shut-down person defense and will often contest every pass, often through the effective use of switching in the back of the stack. On offense, the team uses a reset to keep the disc moving and doesn't hesitate to have one of the veteran players look to put it deep.

Before the UPA Series begins, keep an eye out for how Fugue fares at the most competitive tournaments this season.
