| This small tournament provides an opportunity for near-by teams to play some early-season ultimate on the turf fields at Oosterbahn. Although indoor ultimate is often only an approximation of the outdoor version due to field size and time constraints, such games can still provide insight into the strength of teams once the snow melts this spring. | |||

Tournament Write-up: Information provided by Miriam Allersma The format of this tournament was an eight team round robin, followed by semifinals and finals. Due to a last minute cancellation by a college team, local club players came together to fill the eigth spot of the tournament. Results against this club pick-up team did not count in the rankings to determine which teams would play in semifinals. Both semifinals were close matches, played in short time slots. The semifinal between Michigan and Michigan State ended in favor for the host team, Michigan, with a final score of 7-6. Purdue bested Northwestern in the other semifinal, 5-4. The finals thus pitted Michigan against Purdue. Michigan was dominant the entire match and won the game with a final score of 11-4. It is not surprising to see Purdue, Northwestern and Michigan in the semis as these were the top three teams at the Great Lakes Regionals in 2005. All three teams returned a number of experienced seniors and fifth year players and should be even stronger than last season. Adding to the competitiveness of the region, Michigan State (MSU) and Ohio State (OSU) played some close games against the top three during the weekend. MSU's one-point loss in the semis is evidence of its potential and OSU only lost to Northwestern by one point in the round robin. Other contenders in the region that weren't present at this tournament include Notre Dame, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Each team gave spirit scores for its opponents during the weekend. The tournament spirit award was tied between Purdue, Michigan B, and Michigan State B. Each team received an average score of 4.7 out of 5.
